Message to community partners from University of Chicago President Robert J. Zimmer

By Robert J. Zimmer   ·

The Barack Obama Foundation announced that the University of Chicago’s response to its Request for Qualifications (RFQ), submitted in partnership with organizations and civic leaders on the South Side and across Chicago, has been selected for the next round in the foundation’s site selection process. Over several months, many of you contributed time and ideas to thinking through the potential for a library on the South Side. We are grateful for your energy and enthusiasm.

The widespread enthusiasm from people moved by the project’s possibilities has been especially encouraging. Today’s news affirms our strong belief that the library could be transformative for the heart of the South Side, bringing new economic and cultural opportunities to all of Chicago.

We look forward to continuing to work with the Community Advisory Board, community partners, the City of Chicago, elected officials, civic leaders, and cultural and educational institutions as we prepare a response to the foundation’s Request for Proposals. We will move forward with a bid that honors the rich history and traditions of the South Side and the promising future of our city.

As we do so, I invite you to continue to share your ideas for bringing the Obama Presidential Library to Chicago’s South Side.
